Ploughing through Injustice

Stories of survival and courage amidst gendered violence in agriculture. These graphic stories were developed with SOPPECOM as part of a study on structural violence against rural women in the context of agrarian distress. Based on conversations with more than fifty women farmers from Maharashtra, Telangana and Punjab, the series tells ten stories of their everyday struggles and resilience. I illustrated and designed the series to make their voices accessible and to build empathy for the challenges women in Indian agriculture face. The visual approach balances the dark, rough-textured, gritty reality of their lives with a unique colour palette for each story, highlighting every woman's resilience in her own way.
